Mackie’s of Scotland produces dairy products in a sustainable way. The company wants to show that green focus in the entire production process, including the packaging.
Renewable energy, such as wind, is used before, during and after the production process. Also the packaging process must fit in the story of quality and sustainability. For the IML packaging the company ended up at Verstraete IML.
Jan Van Iseghem, Regional Sales Manager Verstraete IML Northern Europe: ‘Like Mackie’s of Scotland, we pay a lot of attention to sustainable development. At in mould labelling, the packaging and the label exists from the same material, making this homogeneous material completely recyclable, and we can give the raw materials a maximum life span.’
Orange peel look and feel option
‘Mackies of Scotland chose the orange peel look and feel option’, Van Iseghem continues. ‘At this well-known IML technique, also called satin, the labels are made of a multilayer substrate and polypropylene foam in the middle. By using high temperature and pressure values, some of the air escapes from the substrate during the IML process. Resulting in an orange peel effect.’
