Mackie’s of Scotland maakt zuivelproducten op een duurzame manier. Die groene focus wil het bedrijf in het gehele productieproces laten zien, inclusief de verpakking.
Voor, tijdens en na het productieproces wordt gebruik gemaakt van hernieuwbare energie, zoals wind. Ook het verpakkingsproces moet in het kwaliteits- en duurzaamheidsverhaal passen. Voor de IML-verpakking kwam het bedrijf uit bij Verstraete IML.
Jan Van Iseghem, regional sales manager Verstraete IML Noord-Europa: ‘Net als Mackie’s of Scotland besteden wij veel aandacht aan duurzame ontwikkeling. Bij in mould labeling bestaan verpakking en label immers uit hetzelfde materiaal, waardoor dit homogene materiaal volledig kan worden gerecycled en we de grondstoffen een maximale levensduur kunnen geven.’
Orange peel look & feel-optie
‘Mackie’s of Scotland koos voor de orange peel look & feel-optie’, gaat Van Iseghem verder. ‘Bij deze bekende IML-techniek, ook wel satijnglans genoemd, worden de labels vervaardigd uit een meerlagig substraat en polypropyleenschuim in het midden. Door gebruik van hoge temperatuur- en drukwaarden ontsnapt een deel van de lucht uit het substraat tijdens het IML-proces. Met als gevolg een effect van orange peel.’
Mackie’s of Scotland produces dairy products in a sustainable way. The company wants to show that green focus in the entire production process, including the packaging.
Renewable energy, such as wind, is used before, during and after the production process. Also the packaging process must fit in the story of quality and sustainability. For the IML packaging the company ended up at Verstraete IML.

At in mould labelling, the packaging and the label exists from the same material, making this homogeneous material completely recyclable, and we can give the raw materials a maximum life span.’
Orange peel look and feel option
‘Mackies of Scotland chose the orange peel look and feel option’, Van Iseghem continues. ‘At this well-known IML technique, also called satin, the labels are made of a multilayer substrate and polypropylene foam in the middle. By using high temperature and pressure values, some of the air escapes from the substrate during the IML process. Resulting in an orange peel effect.’
